Cell Energy
The Important Role of ATP: ATP is produced in the mitochondria and is crucial. The ATP is a high energy molecules, its role in the cell is to supply energy for all the activies of the cell. ATP is needed in the production of DNA and RNA because it supplies the energy to synthesize it. ATP is vital in endocytosis and exocytosis because it helps the molecules move through the cell membrane. ATP is produced during cellular respiration when chemical energy, or food, is broken down into ATP. ADP is a low energy molecule that when combined with a phospate and an electron it creates ATP, which is a high energy molecule. Enzymes: Enzymes are catalyst that lower the activation energy in a reaction, which makes the reaction happen faster. A catalyst is a substance that helps to increase the rate of a reaction Reactions: The first reaction that creates ATP is the Light Reaction Cycle. When light hits the low energy electrons, they get excited and there energy level is boosted. The electrons travel to other molecules, losing energy on they way, which is the electron transport chain. ADP is combined with a phosphate and an electron to create ATP. The second reaction is Cellular respiration ATP is created when chemical food energy is broken down to create ATP molecules. This process occurs in the mitochondria. Thirty-four ATP molecules are created in this process
